"Good" Friday?

I've always wondered why today is called "Good Friday." It's the day Jesus was crucified, it's not good! Sunday, the resurrection day, now that's a GOOD day.

But it was good that Jesus was unjustly executed.

It is good that God died.
" is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you. But if I go, I will send Him to you."
John 16:7
"' is better for you that one man should die for the people, not that the whole nation should perish.' He did not say this of his own accord, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but also to gather into one the children of God who are scattered abroad..."
John 11:50
"And you, who once were alienated and hostile in mind, doing evil deeds, he has now reconciled in his body of flesh by his death, in order to present you holy and blameless and above reproach before him,"
Col 1:21-22
It would take Someone as creative and amazing as God to turn a tragedy into a cause for rejoicing.

Happy day of unjust execution!

  1. It's the same reason I like the song Beautiful, Scandalous Night. I just love how those words go together...only something like Jesus' death could be called beautiful and scandalous in the same breath.

  2. I love those kinds of songs!! I rediscovered Beautiful Scandelous Night this year on an "old" Christmas CD that was buried in a drawer. Beautiful.
